{Trend Alert} Bridesmaid Dresses (Color, Style, Fabric & Length!)

The summer heat is upon us, but the new year will be here before we know it. The time has come to share the most popular bridesmaid trends of 2013! This year a few particular trends in color, length, style, and fabric have stood out.

{Color}
Matte colors in pretty pastels, soft and subtle vintage hues, and “valentine” shades compose this year’s popular palette. From pink and pale blue to gray and cream the possibilities are endless. The trend focuses on understated shades of your favorite color, accented by florals with powerful pops of color.

{Fabric}
Bridesmaids love the light and airy feel of chiffon, which is why it is the most popular bridesmaids’ fabric of the year! Chiffon can be dressed up for a ballroom reception or dressed down for a beach affair.

{Style}
This year brides are giving their girls the freedom to make their own style decisions. Most commonly, brides are choosing a solitary color and allowing bridesmaids to choose their favorite dress style. It is also common for bridesmaids to choose their gown based on a palette of complimentary colors chosen by the bride.

{Length}
Last but not least, the most popular gown silhouette of the year is… long! The combination of chiffon and long silhouettes is flawless. Chiffon is a versatile fabric- it can be formal or informal depending on intended vision of the happy couple. Although, long gowns are currently on trend, short dresses remain the perfect option for fun, outdoor weddings!

Perhaps the most important and easily forgotten element of shopping for bridesmaid dresses is to enjoy the special moments shared with your best friends!

{Fashion Trends} How brides are thinking outside the box with color!

Recently, we've seen many of our brides choosing to stray from the ever popular trend of bridesmaids all wearing the same gown/color. Many of our girls have chosen to go with a pallette of color such as "tropical" and using peaches, mangoes and berry colors.

One of our beauties used hues of purple for her bridesmaids and they turned out super fab!

What are your thoughts on different colored bridesmaids?

Will it be a trend we regret in 20 years?

We love the changes girls are making to reflect their personal style! Tell us about your way to make your wedding your own and keep you maids happy too!

{Vendor Spotlight} Anna Elyse Bridesmaids

We were so thrilled to add Anna Elyse Bridesmaids to our collection this past October at NY market. Recently, designer Annie Sokoloff shared her amazing journey with us and we just had to share it with you!

"I hope that my story will inspire everyone to follow their dreams because it is never too late"  Annie Sokoloff, Owner & Designer of Annie Girl & Anna Elyse

Annie

Founded in 2006, Annie Girl Couture Creations & Anna Elyse Bridesmaids is the story of a 34 year old quest which began in the heart of a teenage girl from Pennsylvania.

Annie's interest in fashion design began at an early age when she learned to sew at her grandmother's knee. She soon graduated to learning how to sew on a vintage Singer sewing machine. Initial projects were sewn for her Barbie doll and later, after a summer Singer sewing course, for her high school wardrobe.

In 1969, Annie entered college as a Fashion Design major at a liberal arts college two hours from her home. The college cancelled the major during her sophomore year and unable to afford to attend a college far from home, her dream of receiving a degree in Fashion Design was put on hold. Annie decided to finish school locally,  with a degree in Government and Politics.

Shortly after college graduation, Annie married and moved to New Jersey. She took a job at the American Stock Exchange in Manhattan and later worked in the Options division of the Exchange, training traders. She left the Amex in 1977 for her new career as a "mom" when her son, Peter, was born in October of that year.

The next years were spent being a homemaker, corporate wife and mother. When her son entered nursery school, Annie entered the workplace again, this time as a travel agent and spent 13 years in the travel business.

In 1993, Annie found herself with a new challenge - being a single mom. In 1994 Annie purchased an employment agency that specialized in placing travel agents. In the fall of 1996, while visiting her son during parents' weekend at NYU where he was studying Film and TV production, she looked around and realized that, while she had raised him to follow his dreams and passions, she had not followed her own advice. She immediately sold the employment agency.

In the meantime, Annie had met and married the man of her dreams (they met on a wrong phone number ... another story). She decided to help him build up his investment banking business with the agreement that when it was successful, she could pursue her own passion. Within a few years the business had achieved notable success and Annie enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in the Spring of 2001. She graduated with an Advanced Degree in March 2003, thus attaining that goal to become a fashion designer she had set 34 years earlier.

When the company was founded in 2006, it began in an extra bedroom in Annie's home with Annie sitting in front of her sewing machine, making each dress by hand. Seven years later Annie Girl & Anna Elyse has recently announced the opening of their storefront Flagship Salon and Design Studio in Old Town Pasadena, CA, which marks the third physical expansion of their headquarters (not counting when we took over the living room and dining room).

Annie Girl & Anna Elyse dresses are all Proudly Made in Southern California.

{Fashion Updates} Markets, Designers and New Friends, Oh My!

What a whirlwind weekend at market we had! Dallas Market Center was all a buzz with designers and buyers in all areas of retail. We had to try really hard not to get distracted with all the fun! (still contemplating going back to pick up a few items!)

We had a great time chatting with some old friends, making new ones and a great surprise to meet the wonderful Jaime from Bella Flora in the middle of the day! She popped over to pick up a swatch for one of our projects together!

One fab gal that we had the pleasure of chatting with was our rep from Intuzuri (http://www.intuzuri.com/)! You know we have an obsession with all things from over the pond and the gowns from Intuzuri are the newest addition to our collection! We can't wait to show our brides this fabulous collection of lace gowns with intricate details and one super low back!

Another great find was some gorgeous mother's gowns and we do mean gorgeous! Just look at the beadwork on this one shoulder metallic number! (www.cameronblake.com)

Of course, we stopped in to see Justin Alexander, Sincerity Bridal and Mori Lee. Simple classic styles that Audrey Hepburn would die over, lace and peplum skirts are taking front stage and the bridesmaids gowns are red carpet worthy! We almost ordered one to wear ourselves!

The biggest news of the market is that along with the addition of Intuzuri, we will be offering our brides two new additional designers! Look for upcoming posts with all the details!

{Trend Alert} Reception Dresses

Hey ladies! Alright, let’s all be honest, the wedding industry has changed A LOT since our beautiful mommas walked down the aisle, am I right? And one of the trends that has been on the rise in the more recent years is having a reception dress, along with your ceremony gown, for your big day. Let’s explore that a little bit, shall we?

There are some great reasons to have a separate dress for your reception. Reason number one: if you have always dreamed about having an elaborate, beautiful grand gown gracing your bridal body when you float down that aisle towards the man of your dreams, maybe you haven’t quite considered how hard that baby may be to mingle, dance, and celebrate in at your beautiful reception. So why not have a reception dress to change into? Look at it as a time to show more of your personal style, whereas your ceremony gown may have been perfect for highlighting your bridal style. The reception dress may be influenced by your bridal gown or it may even be of a different style altogether. The reception dress can be long or short, either way. There really aren’t any rules as to what “qualifies” as a reception dress. The main focus here is comfort and hopefully that it does not require help from a bridesmaid in order to use the ladies’ room. Secondly, climate and the theme of your reception are factors that should definitely be considered when choosing whether or not you want to incorporate a reception dress into your special day. For example, maybe you’re getting married outdoors in the Texas summer and would like something a little more airy and easy to party in after you’ve said “I do.” If so, go for it! Here are just a few styles that we have in our bridesmaid collection here at Bliss that we think would be great for reception dresses:

WTOO Style 302

Watters Style 2252
Watters Style 2258

Watters Style 2412
Let’s face it, some of you will want to spend as much time as possible in your bridal gown on the day of your wedding, which is completely understandable!  The way you see it, it is the gown you’ve chosen to get married in and since it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, no one will be able to pry that thing off of you until you’re boarding a plane to your Honeymoon! If this is you, then GO GIRL! A reception dress is not for you and that's perfect!
All in all, the question that will ultimately make the decision whether choose to have a second dress or not is quite simple: "Do you want one?" One of the most exciting things about planning a wedding nowadays is that you can personalize and tailor your wedding to pretty much anything you want to do, as long as it fits in your budget. So, as always, stay true to your vision, and remember that your dress (or dresses) is/are no exception to that rule!
