{Tips & Advice} Why you NEED a videographer!

Do you really need a videographer? YES! Ask anyone that has been married without having a videographer and more times than not, they regret not being able to replay their vows, toasts and first dance! You never realize how important you think this is till its something you regret not having. It is the ONLY way you will be able to hear some of the most important moments in your life!

We sat down a moment with some of our favorite people, Adrianne and Atek and asked them, Why would you say each bride NEEDS a videographer. Here's what they said......

Your wedding day had taken months maybe years to plan - the dress, the flower, the cake - what do you have after it's all over? Memories like a wedding day need to be documented and archived for you and your future family. It's so often said " a picture is worth a thousand words" but a video, with sound and action, it's priceless. We here at Turquoise Video all too often hear from brides about how a friend or family member really regrets not hiring a videographer, so our clients understand how important documenting their wedding day is.

You don't have to go out and spend thousands of dollars to get in on film either, there are tons of companies that can film and edit a nice DVD for less than $1800.00. But if you want a highly edited and artistically filmed wedding, then you'll be looking at prices around $2800 and up.

We recently received an email from a bride that just finished watching her "wedding highlight" and said "Omg we love love love it:)))) Y'all did an amazing job...!!! Our families think it is beautiful!!!! It's so cool because it takes you right back to all those moments and I can't imagine a couple getting married without having a great videographer!! Best purchase ever!"

She probably summed it up in those few words "best purchase ever!".

{Tips and Advice} Why having a makeup artist is so important!

We have noticed that our brides tend to leave choosing their hair/makeup team till the last minute and sometimes, they choose to let that detail go since their budget has gone overboard with other details. We cannot express how important and fabulous it is to have your makeup done by a proffesional the day of your wedding!

We just attended a wedding (actually two) this past week that Jennifer Trotter with Lip Service Makeup Artistry did our makeup and/or the brides, so we have first hand knowledge of the magic she can work! Seriously, we're trying to figure out how she can do our makeup for us everyday!

During our time with her, even though we were supposed to remain still, apparently we have very expressive faces, we asked her what the top questions were that brides asked her. Here's the scoop we got!

1.      I don’t like to wear too much makeup, can you make me look good, but still like myself?
(Yes!  It’s all in the technique, but I can make you look polished and more glamorous while still looking like yourself.)
2.      Can you do the whole wedding party or just me?
(Yes!  I can do the entire bridal party if you’d like, or just you.   )

3.      Why should the whole wedding party get makeup done?
(If some people get makeup done and some don’t, the look of your wedding party is inconsistent…some will have too much, some not enough.  When people only book a partial, the ones who didn’t plan on it ALWAYS want it done, better to plan ahead.)
4.      What do you charge?
(It depends on what you want.  I need to know what services you need (trial run, bridal, etc.), how many in your wedding party, where we’re doing makeup. I take all of that information and then create a custom package for you with discounts built in based on the number of services you book.)
5.      What kind of makeup do you use and do you provide all the materials?
(I use mainly MAC and Smashbox cosmetics, but I also use L’Oreal and Revlon on occasion….good products come at all price points!  Not everything I use is super expensive, but it’s all high quality.)

To meet Jennifer and see the top 10 questions she says you should ask any potential vendor, join us at the Unbridaled Open House at Bliss Bridal Salon on June 4th from 6-8 pm!

{Fashion Trends} How brides are thinking outside the box with color!

Recently, we've seen many of our brides choosing to stray from the ever popular trend of bridesmaids all wearing the same gown/color. Many of our girls have chosen to go with a pallette of color such as "tropical" and using peaches, mangoes and berry colors.

One of our beauties used hues of purple for her bridesmaids and they turned out super fab!

What are your thoughts on different colored bridesmaids?

Will it be a trend we regret in 20 years?

We love the changes girls are making to reflect their personal style! Tell us about your way to make your wedding your own and keep you maids happy too!

{Vendor Spotlight} Anna Elyse Bridesmaids

We were so thrilled to add Anna Elyse Bridesmaids to our collection this past October at NY market. Recently, designer Annie Sokoloff shared her amazing journey with us and we just had to share it with you!

"I hope that my story will inspire everyone to follow their dreams because it is never too late"  Annie Sokoloff, Owner & Designer of Annie Girl & Anna Elyse

Annie

Founded in 2006, Annie Girl Couture Creations & Anna Elyse Bridesmaids is the story of a 34 year old quest which began in the heart of a teenage girl from Pennsylvania.

Annie's interest in fashion design began at an early age when she learned to sew at her grandmother's knee. She soon graduated to learning how to sew on a vintage Singer sewing machine. Initial projects were sewn for her Barbie doll and later, after a summer Singer sewing course, for her high school wardrobe.

In 1969, Annie entered college as a Fashion Design major at a liberal arts college two hours from her home. The college cancelled the major during her sophomore year and unable to afford to attend a college far from home, her dream of receiving a degree in Fashion Design was put on hold. Annie decided to finish school locally,  with a degree in Government and Politics.

Shortly after college graduation, Annie married and moved to New Jersey. She took a job at the American Stock Exchange in Manhattan and later worked in the Options division of the Exchange, training traders. She left the Amex in 1977 for her new career as a "mom" when her son, Peter, was born in October of that year.

The next years were spent being a homemaker, corporate wife and mother. When her son entered nursery school, Annie entered the workplace again, this time as a travel agent and spent 13 years in the travel business.

In 1993, Annie found herself with a new challenge - being a single mom. In 1994 Annie purchased an employment agency that specialized in placing travel agents. In the fall of 1996, while visiting her son during parents' weekend at NYU where he was studying Film and TV production, she looked around and realized that, while she had raised him to follow his dreams and passions, she had not followed her own advice. She immediately sold the employment agency.

In the meantime, Annie had met and married the man of her dreams (they met on a wrong phone number ... another story). She decided to help him build up his investment banking business with the agreement that when it was successful, she could pursue her own passion. Within a few years the business had achieved notable success and Annie enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in the Spring of 2001. She graduated with an Advanced Degree in March 2003, thus attaining that goal to become a fashion designer she had set 34 years earlier.

When the company was founded in 2006, it began in an extra bedroom in Annie's home with Annie sitting in front of her sewing machine, making each dress by hand. Seven years later Annie Girl & Anna Elyse has recently announced the opening of their storefront Flagship Salon and Design Studio in Old Town Pasadena, CA, which marks the third physical expansion of their headquarters (not counting when we took over the living room and dining room).

Annie Girl & Anna Elyse dresses are all Proudly Made in Southern California.

{Thank You Notes} Lauren B

We are always so thrilled to receive pictures from our brides. Lauren sent us a picture from her wedding day and a sweet note that totally made our day! Enjoy!

Hello!

I purchased my dress from Bliss back in September of 2012 when I had my October wedding and I just remembered that when I purchased it, y'all mentioned sending pictures of me in on the big day! I've attached an image that I thought represented the dress well!

Thanks again for providing the perfect dress for me! It really was perfect.

{Venue Spotlight} Hollow Hill Event Center

On March 28th, we had the pleasure of participating in the open house at Hollow Hills Farm and Event Center. Going to a new venue, you never know what to expect and we were amazed at the details the Getcher family thought of!

Hollow Hill Farm was established by David and Jean Gechter in April 1983.

It was originally a part of the Tucker Family dairy farm. Hollow Hill is still a working farm – growing and baling coastal hay at this time. The land has been lovingly tended by the Gechter's over the years, and in recent years they wanted to share their beautiful farm with the world.

The decision to open the farm up as an event center was born, and the progress started almost immediately. David has always had a love of building things, and has created many different "vignette" style areas at the Farm including the Great Hall, Old Town, The Hen House (Bridal Suite), The Bunk House (Grooms Suite), Pavilion, Barn and Pecan Grove Ceremony area complete with an old wood cross.

It is a place of love, and they share that with everyone who comes out, as you know. Right now the farm is a bustle with a variety of wildflowers, including Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, Indian Blanket, Black-eyed Susans, and Mexican Hat. Its just a lovely place to visit, and hold an event.

We just loved the Pecan Orchard lit up at night!
